A New Way For Kids To Sit

You may be entertaining the idea of getting your child a set of furniture to provide a spot where artwork of other projects can be created. There are also lots of dinette sets that work for having meals and providing extra room for you when you have lots of dinner guests of all sizes. If you want to give your child the room to be creative and encourage constructive play, then reconsider running our and getting a furniture set that has traditional wood, metal, or plastic seats.

Something new has been going on in classrooms that seems to be catching on. Some teachers have taken out the hard seats that they have tried to get students to stay in for years. They are replacing them with stability balls instead!

Stability or balance balls are those that are included in a number of exercise routines that have proven effective for people of all workout levels. In addition to adding resistance be requiring you to balance while you work out, they also reduce the impact on joints and sensitive backs.

Children have never been known for sitting still in their seats at school or anywhere else. The balls are placed in front of a desk at school and children are free to wiggle and fidget all they want. The balls have been shown to improve children's posture by making them balance themselves upright rather than slumping over as many of them tend to do in traditional styled seats.

Now, you can purchase seats that are made with a stability ball in the center for all sizes of children. Providing this type of seating at their work place will not only improve their posture and balance, it can be used for exercise, movement, and coordination. It also helps encourage children to remain in one spot for longer periods of time since they are free to move and comfortable.

You can purchase a desk or work center for your child that is sold separately and then buy small stability balls for them to sit on instead of buying furniture sets that include the seats. The stability balls come in a variety of bright colors so you can match them to the desk or other furniture if needed. Or you can use them to bring some cheerful color into the room.

When children first start to use these balls to sit on while they work, their muscles may tire after a short period of time and they should have a regular seat to switch to or take a break from work altogether to relax their muscles. Then, they will gradually be able to increase the time they spend on the balls.

One of the biggest improvements teachers have seen in their students since making the switch is an increase in concentration. Just remember to keep your child's stability ball well inflated and upgrade to a larger size as your child grows so that his/her feet are flat on the floor while the knees are bent.
